Splunk Cloud Migration Supports Fintech Firm in Growth Mode

Growth and Budget Goals Coexist

Jack Henry & Associates (Jack Henry™), an industry-leading technology company in the fintech space, provides various payment processing solutions for banks and credit unions. They serve financial institutions across the U.S., and more than 1,000 banks rely on their services.

As part of a strategy to reduce IT costs, improve their security posture and simplify maintenance of a PCI-compliant environment, Jack Henry™ opted to migrate their on-premise Splunk environment to the cloud. However, competing organizational priorities and a lack of in-house Splunk expertise led them to seek TekStream’s assistance for an efficient and effective cloud transition.

Key Pain Points

Insufficient bandwidth to manage and maintain a growing on-premise environment

Uncertainty regarding what data was or was not being used

Lack of confidence and expertise to lead their cloud transition

TekStream designed a tailored migration approach to meet the unique needs of Jack Henry™. Given the role of Jack Henry™ as an entity liable for PCI-compliant data systems, TekStream ensured special consideration when handling their data, which included:

  • Assessing the current environment for any remediation required prior to the migration, including a review of the forwarding tier and premium apps in use
  • Implementing dual-forwarding for a period to minimize data loss and ensure PCI data was searchable for a 30-day migration window minimum and up to three months
  • Ensuring proper retention for indexes, including DAAA (Dynamic Data: Active Archive)

Throughout planning and implementation, TekStream proactively identified and re-architected applications that could not be moved to the cloud. This included implementing a federated search head, creating workarounds using available Splunk-based apps and reworking on-premise applications to
maintain their functionality as well as compatibility with Splunk Cloud.

“TekStream’s Splunk expertise enabled us to take on a cloud migration that enhanced our security posture and improved PCI compliance. Our business required a unique approach that they confidently executed with 100% functionality retention.”
