Genuine Parts Company leverages WebCenter Portal to transition to a single employee communication platform with a mobile responsive design

Customer: Genuine Parts Company

Industry: Automotive Parts Supplier

Business Pain: Genuine Parts Company (GPC) has over 39,000 employees and a variety of subsidiaries including NAPA (focused on automotive replacement parts), Motion Industries (industrial replacement parts), S.P. Richards (office supply products), and EIS (electronic materials). GPC wanted to migrate from the old Oracle AS Portal to a WebCenter oriented employee portal running on WebCenter Portal 11g called GPC Connect. This would effectively consolidate both the Corporate and HR portals into one portal. The new portal needed to have simplified content management, high security standards, and an overall focus on role based delivery.

How we fixed it : TekStream used Oracle WebCenter Portal 11g and WebCenter Content 11g to transition GPC’S system into a single employee communication platform. Custom task flows ensured secured and targeted content.

TekStream implemented a variety of out of the box customizations including page templates, content templates, and resource catalogs. TekStream performed third party integration so the portal could display the weather and GPC’s company stock. A crucial element in the implementation was the look and feel of the mobile version of the website.

TekStream delivered the implementation on time despite an increased scope during the design and implementation phase, as well as delays in the activities dependent on the customer. In order to accommodate the legacy application integration GPC Connect is hosted in the cloud which allows for secure tunnels to customers networks. TekStream performed post-production support to ensure the success of the portal.
